Xbox Kinect distance from TV

I'm very impressed with my Xbox Kinect. This is just a short article sharing my experience with the distance between myself and the Kinect which seems to be a hot topic at the moment.

Before buying my Kinect I read a few articles on the distance required and then measured up and decided to take the plunge.

I've mounted my Kinect just over 4 foot high on top of my flat screen TV. The TV has a nice flat edge on top and the Kinect sits on it quite stable. No need for the additional cost of the mounting bracket.

Normally my TV faces into my lounge at an angle, not straight on. This gives me 6 foot of space and room enough for a good side step before I hit my sofa. In this configuration I've had no problems at all playing Dance Central - a single player game (two player is turn based). My TV has a good swivel stand and I can turn it to give just over 7 foot space. In this position there's just enough space to play 2 player Kinect Adventures and my girlfriend and I had a lot of fun playing the game. We're both about 5 and half foot tall.

In summary you definitely need more room for two player co-op gaming on the Kinect. Try mount your sensor high, preferably on or above the TV if you're short of space.
